Fighting Championships of the World (UFC) bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley has responded to UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov’s claim that O’Malley is the genuine article.

In an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, documentary director Will Harris said that Nurmagomedov described O’Malley as “exceptional” when asked for his opinion of O’Malley during the UFC Hall of Fame event earlier this year.

After his victory against Justin Gaethje in 2020, Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the UFC. However, he is still heavily involved in the sport in other capacities, such as as a promoter and coach. After a perfect 29-0 record in the UFC, he is perhaps the finest fighter in the organization’s history.

As Harris pointed to during his JRE visit, Nurmagomedov’s words carry a lot of weight because of his achievements in the field. Considering O’Malley’s ascent in the bantamweight class, his words of admiration carry much more weight.

On October 22nd, at UFC 280, O’Malley will face the hardest test of his UFC career when he takes on former champion Petr Yan. This follows his UFC 276 no-contest versus Pedro Munhoz due to an inadvertent eye poke.

O’Malley is a huge celebrity in the UFC, and he has lofty ambitions for his MMA career. O’Malley may be remembered as a legend if Nurmagomedov’s prediction comes true.
