Dern vs. Yan – UFC 61 will be held on Saturday at the Apex Facility after a week break for the promotion.

It has been announced that Mackenzie Dern vs. Xiaonan Yan will be the main event at UFC Vegas 61. Each combatant is eager to build a name for themselves and be seen as legitimate championship contenders.

Dern hopes to strengthen her cause to compete for the UFC Strawweight Championship by accumulating more victories this year. On April 9th, at UFC 273, she triumphed over Tecia Torres through split decision to gain a win.

Dern is in a great position to be a championship contender, since he is ranked sixth in his category. A victory against Yan would not guarantee a shot at the strawweight title, though. A victory, though, might prompt the UFC to schedule her for a match against the current top contender for the championship.

Yan faces Dern on Saturday looking to win her third straight bout. Her most recent defeat was on March 5 at UFC 272 in a split decision against Marina Rodriguez.

Yan is now on a three-fight losing run, however she is still rated sixth in the strawweight class. She might face Rodriguez again if she beats Dern and moves up to sixth in the rankings.

Randy Brown will take on Francisco Trinaldo in the co-main event at UFC Vegas 61. They are both undefeated at welterweight and eager to face a higher-ranked opponent in their next bout.
