Chael Sonnen thinks he has a better opponent for Bo Nickal’s debut in the UFC at UFC 282.

After two consecutive first-round victories on Dana White’s Contender Series, Nickal was given a crack in the UFC. His most recent victory was a fast submission against Donovan Beard in the DWCS final.

Nickal’s MMA debut is scheduled for UFC 282 on December 10 versus Jamie Pickett. Pickett, a fellow DWCS graduate, has recently beaten Joseph Holmes and Laureano Staropoli in the Octagon.

Nickal’s UFC debut has been confirmed, but Sonnen predicts that the scheduled bout between Darren Till and Dricus Du Plessis won’t happen after all. If Sonnen is right, then Nickal might be moved up in the card’s order.

Recently, on his podcast Beyond the Fight, Sonnen revealed Nickal’s opponent for UFC 282.

Bo Nickal will face Dricus Du Plessis in his UFC debut, according to Sonnen. The date is December 10th; what do you think? In my book, that’s a tough battle. Dricus has exceptional fighting skills. He’s great, and he’s quite aggressive, in my book… Dricus Du Plessis vs. Darren Till isn’t happening, and I’ve been telling you that as gently as I can for as long as I can. There will be a pay-per-view event held in Las Vegas, and Bo Nickal will be the opening bout.

It seems like Bo Nickal is going to be the headliner on the undercard for now… Du Plessis is a total badass in every way… This dude’s tough, he’s going up against Bo with almost no warning. Sonnen didn’t elaborate on why he thinks Till/Du Plessis won’t happen, although pre-fight injuries are a possibility. When Till was scheduled to fight Jack Hermansson at UFC London earlier this year, but had to pull out due to injury, he is now making his comeback.

Till’s warning to Nickal after DWCS has sparked a back-and-forth between the two in recent days. Nickal responded to news of Till’s insults by playing down the significance of Till’s words and making fun of his recent defeat against Derek Brunson.

In his Oct. 2020 UFC debut, Du Plessis knocked out Markus Perez in the first round. At UFC 276 in July, he defeated Brad Tavares by unanimous decision.

The UFC has indicated that Nickal would go at a leisurely rate, but if Sonnen is right, the company will have no choice but to throw him into the fire.
