Bo Nickal, a newly-signed middleweight prospect for the UFC, has doubled down on his controversial callout of welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev.

Three-time NCAA Division I National Champion Nickal received a shot on this year’s season of Dana White’s Contender Series after making an impressive professional debut under the umbrella of Jorge Masvidal’s iKON FC organization.

The 26-year-old almost perfected his performance early last month, when he submitted Zachary Borrego in 62 seconds. However, White originally decided against signing Nickal and instead offered “The Allen Assassin” another DWCS battle. This was likely due to Nickal’s lack of experience.

On the season’s final card, which took place on Tuesday night, that transpired. Nickal’s performance was even more stunning, as he finished Donovan Beard in just 52 seconds via a triangle choke submission, therefore ending any question as to whether or not he would get a UFC contract at the end of the night.

After securing his spot on the UFC roster, Nickal spoke with Laura Sanko and issued a bold callout, saying he would face #3 welterweight rated Khamzat Chimaev, who is unbeaten in 14 professional bouts and has wins over Gilbert Burns and Li Jingliang.

For a December departure, I am well prepared. Nickal requested that the UFC provide him the Swedish fighter. Because he can’t even make weight, I’m not sure he’s the greatest man.

Nickal has stated that his mentioning of the word “Borz” was not an attempt at dishonesty.

Nickal Said, “I Am Not Joking” About His Chimaev Diss.
Reporter Kevin Iole said during Nickal’s post-fight media scrum that the 26-year-instant old’s callout of Chimaev was intended in jest.

Nickal, after reassuring everyone that he was being serious, gave credit where credit was due and recognized Chimaev’s skills, which have helped the Chechen-born Swedish fighter finish 11 of his 12 opponents in professional MMA. Despite this, “The Allen Assassin” is certain he would win a fight with “Borz.”

“As far as ‘kidding,’ I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Nickal said, “I think that’s a good fit for me.” He is one of the best fighters in the UFC, and not only in his weight class. He is a top-tier grappler. As a result, I have a great deal of admiration for his abilities. I am confident in myself, however.

I’m making my MMA debut, and I’m sure he’ll be challenging for the belt in no time. When do I get that battle, then? Even if it doesn’t happen right now, Nickal says, “I’m ready to go and it will happen in the future and I’ll be more than prepared then.”

It was not the first time Nickal had made overly optimistic predictions about his prospects against Chimaev. Colorado native and current UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya has previously expressed optimism in a prospective matchup.

After going 3-0 in the DWCS, Nickal will be hoping to get off to a winning start in the UFC. It has been said that the top-tier wrestler is now ready to fight top-tier opponents; yet, the company might still increase his star power and excitement by promoting him in the traditional manner.

Regardless, it seems likely that Nickal will receive his first taste of Octagon action before the end of 2022.
